WatchDogs delayed!

So Watch_Dogs, Ubisoft’s most anticipated new IP this year, got delayed by over six months. I won’t deny the fact that I’m slightly disappointed because I wanted to try out the game, and especially try out my new Rig on games that come out, I guess I always have Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag for that, but the AC franchise was never something that blew me away visually to be honest.

What intrigues me the most about this delay is that it was done so close to launch. In case someone’s not aware, Watch Dogs was supposed to release just next month, in November! They obviously knew the repercussions to if they went ahead with delaying the game, as Ubisoft’s shares seem to have dropped a whopping 22% after the announcement, which was to be expected. And despite that, Ubisoft seems calm, so I’m going to go ahead and say it without having played the game, that Watch Dogs is probably going to be one hell of a game, rivalling even GTA 5, either that or Ubisoft is utterly stupid, and I sincerely doubt it’s the latter.
The reason why it was delayed? I’m guessing it was either broken or they wanted to make it even better and not because of Grand Theft Auto as everyone is presuming, either way though, they have a lot of expectations to live upto now that they’ve delayed the game by almost 6 months, so I’m even more interested in playing this game now! (When it releases ofcourse!!)

Ubisoft posted the following statement from the Watch Dogs development team on the Ubisoft Blog:

“Our ambition from the start with Watch Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we’ve made the tough decision to delay the release until spring 2014.

We know a lot of you are probably wondering: Why now? We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune each detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you. We thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the way you respond on the web, at events, press conferences and other opportunities we have to interact. Your passion keeps us motivated.

We can’t wait to see you in Chicago next spring. We are confident you’ll love this game as much as we love working on it.”

Ubisoft also released the following separate statement from CEO Yves Guillemot:

“Our long term goal is to win the next generation. The tough decisions we are taking today to fully realize the major potential of our new creations have an impact on our short-term performance. We are convinced that, longer term, they will prove to be the right decisions both in terms of satisfaction for our fans and in terms of value creation for our shareholders. We are building franchises that will become perennial pillars of Ubisoft’s financial performance. In a context of growing successes for mega-blockbusters, the additional time given to the development of our titles will allow them to fulfill their huge ambitions and thus offer players even more exceptional experiences.

Fueled by strong momentum for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, calendar 2014 will see the return of growth to the console market. Combined with the quality of our line-up and our strong financial situation, this growth will allow us to achieve record operating income in fiscal 2014-15 and 2015-16.”

The Order: 1886 [PS4 Exclusive]

So I’m quite interested in a PS4 exclusive game that’s about to come out in the upcoming future, I don’t know if you’ve heard of the game but it’s called The Order: 1886. And from what I could tell from the teaser trailer, it was about warewolves VS humans with a steam-punk-esq fantasy theme going on in the background. This intrigued me quite a lot since I’m interested in all these topics that they’re blending in together into one game and so I’ve been keeping and eye on it and recently, some new information has been posted which excites me even more (I’m a huge fan of the French revolution period)

Image
The following has been taken from IGN’s recent article about The Order: 1886

“The Order: 1886 touches into real history, and twists it a bit. The third character introduced is none other than Marquis de Lafayette, as in, the real Marquis de Lafayette, the man who proved vital in both the American Revolution and the French Revolution. He’s still alive and kicking as of 1886, as is Sebastian Malory, titled Sir Percival, who is a relative of Thomas Malory, the famed British author.”

My initial reaction after reading this:
“So Lafayette is in this game? Holy shit! That’s so awesome *-*”

And that reaction is still lingering and I’m sure it’ll be there by the time this game is released. This is definitely one of those games I’m looking forward to playing when it releases, the concept seems too epic to miss out on. Hopefully, it turns out to be an amazing game and in turn, an amazing experience =)

Steam Machine and it’s Impact on Gaming.

With a 3rd console now entering the Next Gen console war, i.e. the Steam Machine, what difference do you think it will make?

First of all, I think we should all first talk about what Valve is actually trying to do here and who the Steam Machine is actually meant for.
From what I seem to understand after going through all of valve’s recent announcements, Steam Machine is more about bringing the glory of the PC to the living room space rather than just making their own version of a console with it’s own exclusives; without actually bringing the PC over.

Why do I say this? Well, it’s because Valve has already stated that you can build your Own Steam Machine and upgrade or mod the ones you buy according to how you wish…. just like a PC. Now Valve is obviously not stupid enough to price those consoles extremely high, because consoles are known for their cheap investment where you can play most of the games that come out in the next 5 years or so, but people are speculating that to build a good Steam Machine, it’ll take a bit too much, specially when you compare the PS4’s extremely appealing 400$ price range. Now what I am speculating is that the SteamOS will be extremely helpful in this case as it has been shown to give a boost in graphical capabilities of a given game in the same hardware when compared with another OS, presumably Windows 7 or 8.  This is actually a huge deal and something most people are underestimating, if you can run games on higher settings in SteamOS with the same hardware that runs games on medium settings on your windows, it’s obvious that if you’re a gamer, you will want to switch to the SteamOS or Steam Machine when you are gaming.
Since a Steam Machine won’t carry the extra luggage a PC does, it’s same to presume that it’ll be cheaper when compared to a PC, otherwise the Steam Machine really doesn’t have a use cause if we wanted to just hook up our PC to a TV and play with a controller, we can still do that. Streaming isn’t enough to lure gamers into buying the Steam Box, so I expect quite a few surprises up Valve’s sleeves for the coming Next Gen console war!

Also, if I’m to guess, I’ll say the Steam Machine might just carry some unique hardware of it’s own. Something that’s only compatible with the steam machine and nothing else. Makes sense when you think about the fact that it’s upgradable and/or customizable. Hopefully this doesn’t turn out to be a bad thing unlike the PlayStation 3’s Cell Processor which lead to the PS3’s shaky start of it’s console life.

Now something I’m really excited about, is the fact that we might finally be getting console only games on PC as well!!!!
Why do I say that?
Probably because Steam is entering the console market with it’s Steam Machines which will as far as I can imagine, use the Steam client we PC gamers are used to at this day and age. And also, Valve mentions that we don’t have to buy a Steam Machine. That to me basically means, “We won’t have any exclusives for the Box”. This doesn’t mean they won’t have exclusives, but rather it means that they won’t have any exclusives related to the hardware. Their exclusives will rather be related to the SteamOS if I had to guess, meaning that you’ll need SteamOS installed if you want to play let’s say… Half Life 3?! ;D Something like this is predictable  and bound to happen but hey, they need exclusives if they want to survive a console war, let alone try and win it, so we can’t really blame them.
The Steam Machine will obviously also get the “console only” games, because at the end of the day, the Steam Machine is a console, and I doubt valve is dumb enough to not have any console only games on their own consoles, and this is basically the reason why I think PC gamers will be getting “console only” games as well, which makes them not so “console only”.

From what I can understand, Valve is trying to unite both console gamers and PC gamers together and they might just accomplish in doing so with their Steam Machines and SteamOS. Let’s just hope they don’t plan on conquering the world anytime soon, because knowing this company, they’re capable of doing almost anything! On other news, I myself definitely can’t wait to get my hands on a Steam Machine and see what it’s all about, mostly the hardware aspects and figure out how things work.

GTA 5 Online not working? I’m SO surprised!

Grand Theft Auto 5 has grossed over $800 Million Dollars on the first day and over $1 Billion Dollars within the first 3 days. This game is the fastest game sold ever. With so much hype in the air for GTA 5, it feels like that it’s basically on the verge of making a gaming revolution, so considering all of the things I’ve said along with the fact that there has yet to be a good online game that had a perfect launch day; was it really a surprise that GTA Online wouldn’t work properly on launch day? Or launch week for that matter, which is what I’m predicting anyway.

I’ve seen people saying that this shouldn’t have happened because they pushed the online game release for over a week after the original game launched. Now there’s only so much a company can do within a week, I don’t think even Rockstar themselves realized how much of a big fan following they created for GTA 5 even before the game launched, because the record breaking sales is a huge leap when compared to the previous record holders!

If you want my advice, stop whining if you can’t get into GTA Online, try logging in from the 3rd day if you want a good experience because the first few days will be as broken as hell, like it’s been on the first day, which I’m sure every single one of you noticed. Plus The single player still has a lot of content to be found I’m sure, so just go ahead and play around with Trevor for sometime more.

What I honestly think of – Devil may Cry (DmC)

So I finally swallowed my preconceived prejudice for Devil may Cry because they changed Dante into an idiot and a blabbering stereotypical image of an emo punk teen and honestly? It wasn’t that bad.

Now, let’s down some facts here first, I’m a huge fan of Dante and even more so, of Vergil, when I first saw him on Devil May Cry 3 (I played Devil May Cry 3 and 4, just so we’re clear) I just fell in love with the character. He was basically the original Uchiha Sasuke. He had that sense of vengeance, honour and ruthlessness in him and was in general, a complete badass. However, I’m sad to say, that they completely butchered the character in Devil may Cry. A hundred times more so then they butchered Dante, who was surprisingly, not that bad to relate to or for that matter, love. There were quite a few of their so called “witty banter” which basically sounded as if they were one of those #YOLO kids trying too hard to crack jokes. Example? Vergil ends one of the so called “witty banters” by telling Dante that he has a bigger dick. -_-“

While the story wasn’t a huge improvement from the previous games, (I state again, I played Devil May Cry 3 and 4 and I personally thought the plots in both the games were pretty good to be honest!) But you could say it had a different take on it, they talked about how the demons had basically taken over and was controlling the world with debt and soft drinks blah blah… Not that interesting, but it’s passable. I personally wasn’t a fan of the art style of the game, I thought that the previous Devil May Cry titles had better art direction, people have said that the current one looks gritty but I just think it looks just plain bad, the textures look horrible to me, but let’s just say that that’s just me. So the graphics in and of itself, isn’t very appealing to me because the art style looks horrible to me and not because they didn’t try and work on it.

The combat and gameplay is pretty smooth, in some parts, more improved then the previous titles, I will say however that, getting style points in this game is quite easy on normal, I was almost regularly getting the SSS Rank. The lack of a focus aim like the previous DMC titles, is annoying but I can deal with it! All in all, the game isn’t really all that bad, I liked the game and there’s not a lot to complain about; if you ignore the fact that I find the art style horrible. The only thing I Can complain about however is the fact that they completely destroyed the character of Vergil, That’s probably my Only real problem with the game, other than that it’s a pretty good game, nothing exceptional or anything, just pretty good! so if you’re holding out on playing it, Still, go and give it a try, it’s not something you’ll regret putting your time into, Promise!

If I had to rate the game, I’d give it a 7/10

3rd Announcement is out. No Half Life 3!

So, the third announcement by Valve is out and it’s not Half Life 3. I have to say, I’m disappointed, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t. On the other hand however, we did get a very weird little controller instead! This thing looks like something out of the future, and in some ways, also impractical, but that I won’t know till I get a hands on impression myself.

ImageLet’s start with the design of the controller shall we? My first impression when I saw the controller was kind of like this:

Image
I have to say, I’m confused as well as quite impressed by the new controller. I don’t think there’s any other controller out there that’s quite like this one. And I would definitely love to get my hands on this thing in order to see how well it performs. Even though Half Life 3 wasn’t announced, this controller more or less makes up for it, because Valve might truly be revolutionizing the console gaming market. Even the Steam Machine announcements didn’t interest me as much as this weird looking controller did. Will the controller be a disappointment though? I very much doubt it since Valve doesn’t really have a history of screwing things up unless I’m forgetting something. But hey, anything can happen!

Microtransactions and GTA 5?!

Now I know this is a bit late, but I’m sure most of you’ve already heard that GTA 5 online will have microtransactions in it. As in you’ll be able to buy GTA 5 money with your real life money!

This doesn’t really come as a surprise to me as GTA 5 online will have a persistent world, and it’ll need to maintain it’s servers somehow, right? (Even though the game earned a billion dollars in about 3 days!!) What most people are worried about though, is that, will this change make the game pay to win?! This is an on going discussion at the moment over the internetz since players have complained that earning cash in GTA 5 is increasingly difficult then the previous GTA games and that Rockstar might have made these changes in order to rope in some more cash while they’re at it. But, I’ll go ahead and give you my direct opinion, I sincerely doubt it!

First of all, the guns and cars and all the upgrades related to said equipment are relatively cheap, you certainly won’t require a million dollars to upgrade your choice of weapon or vehicle unless you’re planning on robbing a bank with an passenger jet and a power armour! So, it’s safe to say that you won’t fall behind on actual progression or competitive gameplay.

From my experience of the game so far, it seems like that you need the excessive amount of money to buy yourself luxury items (Like that 1 million dollar car!) that you probably won’t use and will occupy useless space till you decide to throw it away, just like in real life! Good examples would be mansions or boats or I don’t know… the Titanic?!
(Look, I haven’t even completed the game yet so I barely know everything there is to know about GTA 5, who knows, there might be a Titanic and you just don’t know about it yet!)

Whatever the case, it’s safe to assume that you can easily compete with others even if you don’t buy GTA cash from Rockstar, because at the end of the day, you have a thing called the Stock Market inside the game, and if you’re smart enough, you can easily earn millions from that! Over on top of that, Rockstar has also stated that it’ll be easy for you to earn cash online compared to earning cash in the single player story mode for Grand Theft Auto 5!
This is the original statement from Rockstar which I’m referring to, “the economy is balanced differently from the single player economy, and cash earned in one cannot be taken over to the other. Most players will earn cash much faster Online than in Story Mode.”
